The comfort of dim sum at home
From its foundations, dim sum has been about connection – sharing and connecting over tasty food and hot tea. The term dim sum is often translated as “a little touch of heart”. That is the essence of what we do and who we are. Sharing a touch of heart with the community around us.
Kam Wai has been a part of the evolving face of Chinatown since we opened our doors in 1991 on Gore St. A lot has changed in the neighbourhood since then, and we’ve changed with it; but the importance of food, family and connection remain a central part of who we are as a family-run company. Family takes on many shapes and sizes but all of us can connect over a warm, delicious meal.

Stopped by just before (after...?) closing, and Harvey was already cleaning the steamer and doing his cash-out. He stopped to let me grab some frozen items to fill my freezer, which I really appreciated. With a celiac wife and vegan daughter, his recommendations were especially helpful. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any hot food ready since I came in so late, but Harvey graciously offered to steam something for me anyway, which I declined (although he may have just been being super nice!). Great service—would definitely come back, partly just for Harvey!Posted on Google Rudolf Penner11 August 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Stopped by this place randomly while we were visiting Vancouver from Seattle. Picked up some frozen dim sum and tried it… so freaking good! Juicy, great flavor, and so convenient to steam at home. Much easier than going to a dim sum restaurant. Affordable pricing as well. Will be a must stop for us everytime we visit.Posted on Google P Wong15 July 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great spot for fresh AND frozen dim sum, wontons, dumplings, and zhong/zongzi (sticky rice). The staff are nice and there are a few tables to sit with piping hot triple mushroom dumplings, beef balls, or a classic chicken mushroom rice. Delicious and comforting, I love this spot!
