The comfort of dim sum at home
From its foundations, dim sum has been about connection – sharing and connecting over tasty food and hot tea. The term dim sum is often translated as “a little touch of heart”. That is the essence of what we do and who we are. Sharing a touch of heart with the community around us.
Kam Wai has been a part of the evolving face of Chinatown since we opened our doors in 1991 on Gore St. A lot has changed in the neighbourhood since then, and we’ve changed with it; but the importance of food, family and connection remain a central part of who we are as a family-run company. Family takes on many shapes and sizes but all of us can connect over a warm, delicious meal.

This is our families go-to place to buy 叉燒包 chāshāo bāo. 1st generation Taiwanese mother-in-law law approved. What more do I really need to say? They have a couple tables and serve fresh individual orders along with some dim sum favourite or you can buy a pack from the freezer to take home and steam for yourself.Posted on Google Paul Donovan23 April 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a couple of bites of their food over the years ( the generosity of a friend sharing) and it was always delicious. Today as fate would have it, the only parking spot I found happened to be right in front of this magical store. I am flabbergasted ! The taste and quality of the food was exemplary at very reasonable prices ! Now I am a convert and will return ! Only a couple of tables so it’s setup more for takeout.Posted on Google Ral bal16 April 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The dimsum here is OK, but the value you get more than makes up for it. My favourites were the turnip cakes, pork potstickers, and black bean beef ribs. The buns were OK, but I don't really like buns all that much, you can get 6 for $15 which is insane value.Posted on Google Dennis De Los Reyes15 March 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great place! They have fresh food and frozen dim sum. shiumai, pork buns, dumplings, congee, spare ribs and many more. Friendly staff, reasonable prices. They have two locations: E Pender in Chinatown... and the one on Hastings and Nanaimo.
